Sorry! (A Canadian Album)

K. Trevor Wilson

Dine Alone Comedy · Album · 2017

Seventeen years of Canadian road work filtered through a booming deadpan.

K. Trevor Wilson talks like a man who has had to shout over the rattle of a radiator in a small-town motel room. His delivery is slow and bass-heavy, building each story with unhurried logic until the details turn completely unhinged. The centerpiece of this set is a bitter reckoning with Canadian weather, specifically Vancouverites who smugly boast about their mild winters while dodging torrential downpours in soaked running shoes when they really need Paddington Bear boots to fend off trench foot.

Released in November 2017 on Comedy Records, the album arrived just as Wilson was breaking out nationally as Squirrely Dan on Letterkenny. Rather than leaning on television recognition, he drew entirely on material gathered across seventeen years of grinding club dates in secondary markets.

The tracks wander through regional grievances, small-town directions, and adolescent misadventures before closing on “Drugs Shortcut,” a long, winding story about attempting a woodland detour while completely stoned. The record went to number one on the iTunes comedy chart and earned a nomination at the 2018 Juno Awards, where the category for Comedy Album of the Year had just been reinstated after a 33-year hiatus.
