Doug Dynasty

Stoned punchlines and Twitter crowd work at the Neptune Theatre.
Doug Benson checks his phone onstage to read audience tweets, calling the routine futuristic crowd work so he does not have to talk to anyone directly. When a camera crane sweeps too close to his head, he stops mid-joke to direct the operators himself. It is loose, thoroughly baked stand-up that treats an hour-long recording with the casual indifference of a Sunday afternoon rehearsal.
Filmed beneath a ceiling of decoy mallards at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle, the set arrived after years of annual 4/20 audio albums and podcasting marathons like Doug Loves Movies and Getting Doug with High. By that point in his career, his persona had settled into comfortable autopilot: a working stoner who turned unhurried slacking into an entire business model.
The writing is sharper than the squinting delivery suggests. Between pot asides, he riffs on taking one month off alcohol every year so he can claim a full twelve months of sobriety after a decade, mimics Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs, and recounts avoiding unsolicited stand-up advice from elderly women.
