A loose Denver club set built on audience tweets and weed.
Doug Benson does not bother with the mechanics of a conventional club routine so much as he runs an in-person hangout. The centerpiece of the show is a sprawling twenty-five-minute opener titled “Social Madea,” where he scrolls through tweets submitted by audience members before showtime, using their odd check-ins and inside jokes as kindling for unscripted banter.
It is comedy built around presence rather than punchlines.
Recorded on April 20, 2015, in Denver, Colorado, the album continued Benson’s annual tradition of taping a live record on the cannabis calendar’s primary holiday. By 2015, his touring act lived largely in the slipstream of his podcasting empire, particularly Doug Loves Movies and the video series Getting Doug with High. The crowd was not looking for polished theater, and he did not bring any.
Instead, the remaining tracks drift across casual movie recommendations in “Watch This Not That or That,” eating snacks on stage, and recounting scattered thoughts from the road before watching the clock tick past midnight.
