The immediate upside to children finally leaving the house is the sudden, uncomplicated freedom to have sex on the living room furniture without checking the hallway first.

Chad Daniels filmed his tenth stand-up hour, and first for Netflix, at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota. Having built a massive career with over a billion audio streams while choosing to raise his family in rural Minnesota rather than relocating to New York or Los Angeles, Daniels uses the performance to reflect on mid-life adjustments. He jokes about his self-proclaimed inability to write smooth transitions, moving comfortably instead between testing the crowd’s boundaries on taboo topics, mocking the Catholic Church, and discussing his son’s early marriage. He also offers some counterintuitive advice for parents of young children: start loving them a little less now so it doesn’t hurt as much when they eventually pack up and leave.
