A veteran Australian comic settles into middle age and quiet cynicism.
Gavin Baskerville works through the unglamorous perks of settling into his mid-forties, starting with the magnetic pull of a living-room couch and the firm decision to never have children. He makes no attempt to chase youth culture or feign midlife panic. Instead, he leans into the steady rhythm of an experienced club comic, dispensing dry misanthropy without raising his voice.
Released in 2018 through Comedy Dynamics and NextUp, the set caught Baskerville during a busy stretch running Jokers Comedy Club in Hobart and consulting on the Australian indie feature film The Merger. Rather than chasing topical headlines, the 44-minute set sticks to ordinary domestic friction: the absurdity of sudden adult food allergies, the boredom of dinner parties, and the slow mechanics of marital compromise.
