He'll Yeah

James Austin Johnson

800 Pound Gorilla · 2026

Club sets, sketches, and surreal impressions from the SNL standout.

Anyone expecting an hour of standard political satire will find something much weirder. Johnson treats vocal mimicry not as a punchline machine, but as an engine for wandering narratives: a murderous Bob Dylan hunting down Harry Potter, rodents stepping in cadence to marching bands, and an airport delay sparked by an inappropriately flirtatious flight attendant.

Director Bryan B. Stray assembled the hour from club dates across the country, with Johnson’s changing hairstyles tracking stops at Zanies in Nashville, The Den Theatre in Chicago, and Cobb’s in San Francisco. Between the stand-up sets, the release folds in tour footage, music, and short sketch segments.

It caught him five seasons into his run at Saturday Night Live, where his looping, syntax-fracturing impression of Donald Trump had turned him into the show’s primary cold-open anchor.
