From Behind the Bushes - Live

Jethro

PolyGram Video · 1994 · 60 min

Filthy West Country storytelling captured live on the Isle of Wight.

Jethro builds entire routines out of rural Cornish gossip, ribald tavern anecdotes, and the misadventures of his fictional sidekick Denzil Penberthy. He wanders the stage with a pint, dropping into a thick West Country dialect that disguises dirty punchlines as harmless village chatter until the vulgarity snaps into focus.

Recorded at the Pavilion in Sandown on the Isle of Wight, the 1994 release followed the commercial momentum of his debut video the previous year. While he made occasional clean guest appearances on mainstream variety shows, his core appeal remained firmly in working men’s clubs and regional theaters, where the material was far too vulgar for broadcast television.

The set features his signature routine about why the train never stops at Camborne on Wednesdays, mixed with bits on spiritualist meetings, local burials, and marital dysfunction, plus a brief interlude on acoustic guitar.

PolyGram released the hour-long tape straight to VHS, where it sold more than 250,000 copies and spent over three months in the UK video sales charts.
