Deliciously Vulgar
Stand Up! Records · Album · 2019
A filthy, charming collection of dating disasters and sexual misadventures.
Kathleen McGee was never one to dance around a subject. On her 2019 debut album, Deliciously Vulgar, she delivers a direct, explicit, and cheerful set about sex, dating, and bad decisions. Rather than playing the part of a hardened shock comic, McGee presents her bedroom misadventures and club excursions with a friendly, conversational ease, making topics like face-sitting waivers and swingers’ clubs feel as casual as a chat over coffee. Released by Stand Up! Records and produced by Dan Schlissel, the 44-minute album captures the Edmonton-born comedian at a high point in her career. Around the time of its release, McGee was a fixture on CBC’s The Debaters and was nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award for her live festival work. The tracks here cover everything from family interventions and bad dates to Tinder etiquette and the mechanical realities of modern vibrators. Reviewers pointed to her warm, likeable charm as the secret ingredient that keeps her highly graphic material from feeling alienating.
