The Half Hour

Liza Treyger

Comedy Central · 2015 · 30 min

A blunt club set about bad sex and unreasonable standards.

Liza Treyger’s argument for reforming sex education boils down to a single ultimatum: if she is not finishing, nobody is. She delivers it with the dry exhaustion of someone who has sat through enough mediocre encounters to stop pretending politeness belongs in the bedroom. She also recounts riding a stretch limousine to a Miley Cyrus concert, stepping outside only to watch hundreds of screaming teenagers realize she was nobody they wanted to see.

Taped at The Royale in Boston in June 2015, the set aired that August as the premiere of the fourth season of Comedy Central’s half-hour showcase. Treyger had recently moved to New York after coming up in Chicago, where she co-founded the Riot Comedy showcase; the taping fell during the same week she passed at the Comedy Cellar.

She spends the rest of the set targeting couples who refuse to hold hands (comparing them to thin people who dress poorly) and complaining about how her own standards have made getting laid unnecessarily difficult.

Paste later included the set on its list of the best stand-up specials of the 2010s.
