Adam Ray spent much of 2024 wearing a bald cap and a mustache, finding massive viral success with his chaotic, improvisational “Dr. Phil LIVE!” shows. For his third stand-up special, recorded at Comedy on State in Madison, Wisconsin, he ditched the character work to remind everyone he is a highly capable stand-up in his own right. He performs with the frantic pacing of someone who spent years on the comedy club grind.

The hour relies on Ray’s talent for crowd engagement and high-energy observational storytelling. He spends time on the specific etiquette required for Disneyland, the details of his childhood dream of playing in the NBA, and the general misery of modern air travel. One of the stronger sequences involves his sister’s marriage to an incredibly earnest white rapper, a story that Ray tells with a mix of disbelief and genuine affection. Released on his birthday through 800 Pound Gorilla Media, the set shows a seasoned comic enjoying a mid-career hot streak.
