Before he became the host of a trivia show inside a moving yellow sedan, Ben Bailey was a club-honed stand-up comic. Recorded at the UP Comedy Club in Chicago, the set showcases his physical delivery and fixation on the absurdity of language. In one standout bit, Bailey takes a pedestrian’s claim that someone was “beaten half to death” entirely too literally, walking the audience through the dark, recursive logic required to prove such mathematical accuracy. He also targets the early annoyances of predictive internet searches, comparing Google to an overbearing companion who interrupts with wild guesses like “piss bag” the second you type a single letter.

This hour represented a return to his roots. Although his television hosting gigs earned him three Daytime Emmy awards, Bailey began his career at Los Angeles’s Comedy Store and spent years grinding in New York City’s club scene.
