At a moment when he essentially ruled British lad culture, Frank Skinner takes the stage in the West Midlands to run a victory lap in his hometown. Filmed in 1998 at Birmingham’s Hippodrome Theatre, the set captures a comic who suddenly found himself at the dead center of the country’s mainstream pop culture.

Skinner was at a career high water mark that year. He was balancing The Frank Skinner Show and Fantasy Football League on television, and his football anthem “Three Lions” alongside David Baddiel had just topped the UK charts for a second time for the World Cup. Returning to the city where he grew up, Skinner leans into a conversational, highly confident hour, proving that despite the massive television profile, he still knows exactly how to work a live theater crowd.
