Matt Rife attempts to bring holiday cheer to a crowd by throwing out his prepared notebook and betting the entire hour on unscripted roasting. He leans heavily into the crowd’s worst gift experiences, failed family traditions, and relationship drama, proving once again that his real comfort zone is off-the-cuff banter with the front row.

Filmed in October at the Tempe Improv in Arizona, the Netflix release is directed by Rife’s friend and fellow comedian Erik Griffin. Rife performs in front of a festive hearth, sarcastically declaring Tempe ‘the Christmas capital of the world’ to mock the 85-degree desert heat outside. The production leans into a cozy aesthetic, complete with a spontaneous stage appearance by a magician from the audience.

The special arrived in late 2025 as the third Netflix entry in Rife’s rapidly built streaming catalog, following 2023’s Natural Selection and 2024’s Lucid. While Rife continued to break live attendance records at arenas, this holiday-themed experiment polarized audiences immediately. It drew particular ire from online parents when Netflix’s autoplay preview spoiled the secret of Santa Claus for children within its first two seconds. His crowd interactions also flirted with controversy, featuring tense bits about ‘Black holidays’ and a racially themed match-making attempt between his cameraman and an audience member.
