Michael Colyar works with the muscle memory of someone who once ran five sidewalk sets an afternoon on Venice Beach. He treats traditional street setups and time-worn premises like musical scales, using tracks like ‘Old Joke Alert’ and ‘Yo Mama’ to demonstrate that classic cadence can still generate momentum when driven by full-throated delivery. Across twelve tracks, the 41-minute audio album pivots between domestic physical indignities, like a lengthy breakdown of taking a colon cleanser, and road-comic staples like surviving meals at Cracker Barrel. When he shifts away from everyday gripes, he turns toward older influences, dedicating time to Redd Foxx and honoring the generation of Black comedians who established the ground rules he still follows. Issued by Comedy Dynamics in early 2015, the recording caught Colyar decades past his 1990 Star Search victory and his run on Def Comedy Jam, operating as a veteran who had survived addiction and settled into a groove of seasoned comfort over reinvention.
