Mike Epps has a simple question for a man with a thirty-year career and a hit Netflix sitcom: where did all the money go? That financial panic is the driving force behind his fourth Netflix special, an hour of stand-up that feels less like a polished theater show and more like a loose, club-set venting session.

Filmed at the Gila River Resorts & Casino in Phoenix, Arizona, the set finds Epps operating in his comfortable lane of street-level observation and self-deprecation. He targets the absurdity of the host city, declaring Phoenix the official home of the FBI’s witness protection program before sliding into his usual roster of relationship grievances. He riffs on the concept of “work husbands,” details his own failures at infidelity, and takes a hard stance on putting an age limit on oral sex due to the taste of prescription medicine.

By 2024, Epps was a foundational fixture of Netflix’s comedy brand, largely thanks to the streaming success of his multicam series The Upshaws. Directed by fellow comic Royale Watkins, Ready to Sell Out leans heavily into that built-in familiarity. While critics noted that the material trod very familiar ground—with some calling the performance flat and formulaic—the special still found a massive audience, twice entering Netflix’s U.S. top ten list. Epps doesn’t try to reinvent his style here; he leans on his signature physical energy, facial expressions, and quick crowd work to carry a fairly standard hour over the finish line.
