A Trip To Goofyville

Scott Novotny

Comedy Dynamics · 2018 · 50 min

Old-school physical clowning about aging bodies and freezing Midwestern winters.

Scott Novotny leans hard into elastic, physical clowning, pulling exaggerated faces, breaking out novelty glasses, and pantomiming the quiet indignities of aging joints. His routine on Midwest winters turns the routine chore of shoveling snow into an athletic struggle against sub-zero temperatures, punctuated by cartoonish sound effects. Filmed at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah, the set caught Novotny decades into his career after running Minneapolis’s first full-time venue, The Comedy Cabaret, and writing for the Brave New Workshop. Here, he relies on clean physical bits about pets, marriage, and the strange noises human knees make past sixty.
