Sean Donnelly

Comedy Central Records · Album · 2015 · 50 min

A burly club comic coming to terms with domestic life.

Sean Donnelly knows what he looks like: an off-duty dockworker who wandered away from a job site. The comedic payoff comes from the contrast between that heavy frame and the neurotic reality of his daily routine. He spends much of his stage time detailing mundane domestic concessions, from surrendering decorative authority over bedskirts to the chore of walking an English bulldog.

The material was recorded at The Royale in Boston during the June 2015 tapings for the fourth season of Comedy Central’s The Half Hour. While the television broadcast trimmed the set to twenty-one minutes, Comedy Central Records released the full forty-eight-minute performance as his debut comedy album that November.

By 2015, Donnelly was a regular on the New York club circuit, supplemented by appearances on Late Show with David Letterman and Conan. On stage, his pacing remains unhurried. He moves through sleep apnea, the shifting parameters of male body weight, and the social awkwardness of neighborhood barbershops without forcing the punchlines.
