Peabody In Provo

Sean Peabody

Comedy Dynamics · 2017 · 38 min

A relaxed, family-friendly club set about fatherhood and body image.

Sean Peabody knows what he looks like. At well over six feet and broad-shouldered, he points out that strangers usually peg him as a bouncer, a security guard, or a bachelorette party stripper before guessing stand-up comic. The material works because he leans into that visual mismatch, using an easygoing rhythm to talk about everyday indignities: getting winded while eating, accidentally emptying a bathtub through sheer body displacement, and an ill-advised standoff with a pelican.

Filmed at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah in late 2017, the 38-minute set operates entirely within the platform’s family-friendly parameters. Peabody spent years working road clubs and performing on military tours after getting his start cracking jokes as a Marine Corps firearms instructor. That journeyman comfort shows on stage. Rather than straining against the venue’s squeaky-clean mandate, he keeps the pacing conversational, treating the Utah room like a casual living room where he happens to be holding a microphone.
