Steve Mazan

Comedy Dynamics · 2018 · 50 min

Strictly clean club comedy about mittens, marriage, and Star Wars conventions.

Mazan spends several minutes outlining how mittens reduce grown adults to helpless toddlers incapable of opening a car door or checking a phone. It is observational stand-up built on club mechanics rather than shock value, treating minor daily inconveniences like structural design flaws.

Recorded at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah and released in 2018, the 43-minute set captures a working comic who never needed vulgarity to keep an audience engaged. By that point in his career, Mazan had earned a daytime Emmy writing for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, performed on the Late Show with David Letterman, and toured repeatedly for military service members. His health battles had already been documented in the film Dying to do Letterman, but none of that heavy autobiography makes it onto this stage.

Instead, the set sticks to standard club topics: the friction of letting a spouse drive, polite hecklers in Canada, choosing dogs over children, and getting cornered at a comic convention by a succession of competing Boba Fett cosplayers.
