What World Is This?
Comedy Dynamics · 2017 · 37 min
Club comic Tim Young works through family quirks and travel anxiety.
Tim Young builds his set around flashes of domestic panic, like the morbid realization that a subcompact car skips the airbag in favor of a body bag, or the cosmetic horrors of donating your face to science. He plays the exasperated observer baffled by modern rituals, whether that means surviving an unplanned visit to a nude beach or deciphering small-town gas station etiquette.
He knows how to work a room without resorting to shock value.
Taped in Provo, Utah, in April 2017 and released as part of Dry Bar Comedy’s inaugural season, the set runs under forty minutes. Young was already a fixture on the New York circuit with credits on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, bringing years of college touring experience to a stage that strictly banned profanity.
Much of the material contrasts childhood memories of his outdoorsy father with his own complete lack of survival instincts. Other routines pull comedy out of airline turbulence for an anxious flier and the minor indignities of Little League sidelines.
