Mike Cannon spent two years honing a set about a familiar millennial struggle: trying to raise well-adjusted children while still carrying the baggage of one’s own childhood. His performance at the New York Comedy Club in Stamford, Connecticut, runs on a mix of domestic anxiety and self-assessment, treating the chaos of parenting two young boys as an ongoing trial of mental endurance.

Filmed in April 2024 and released that September on Chris Distefano’s YouTube channel, the hour represents a literal family affair. Cannon’s longtime collaborator Distefano executive produced the project, his wife designed the floral stage arrangements, and his sisters contributed vocals to the intro music. Cannon leans into personal history, offering an occasionally neurotic autopsy of his own upbringing to explain his current style of fatherhood. Instead of relying on typical dad-joke tropes, he focuses on the absurdity of raising sons in a modern landscape, dealing with physical decline after forty, and trying to keep his own mental health intact.
