Cat Jokes

Zoltan Kaszas

Comedy Dynamics · 2018 · 50 min

A clean club set defending the appeal of indifferent cats.

Zoltan Kaszas does not want his pet acting like an eager golden retriever panting in his face, demanding to inspect a neighborhood tree. He wants an animal that behaves like an indifferent roommate: someone who wanders into the living room, grants three seconds of physical contact, deliberately lies on a clean pile of unfolded laundry, and walks back out.

Recorded at the Dry Bar Comedy club in Provo, Utah, the 46-minute set gave Kaszas the kind of runaway internet notoriety comics spend decades chasing. Before the taping, the Hungarian-born comic had spent years working clubs after starting stand-up at nineteen in San Diego, eventually winning the Seattle International Comedy Competition in 2013. When clips of his cat routine hit social platforms, the segment racked up tens of millions of views on Facebook.

Because Dry Bar strictly bars profanity and vulgarity, the set leans entirely on timing and mundane domestic friction. Kaszas works through everyday annoyances: surviving Costco runs, coping with an irrational fear of turbulence, staying at sketchy motels, and watching his wife adopt pets with disabilities. He also recounts an accidental attempt to bestow his very first blessing upon a pedestrian in Portland.
