The Half Hour

Andrew Santino

Comedy Central · 2015 · 30 min

Twenty minutes of exasperated Chicago attitude and aggressive bird noise.

Andrew Santino approaches stand-up like a man looking for someone to blame for the morning. He begins by treating early chirping from neighborhood birds as desperate, unhinged mating screams outside his bedroom window. He works the stage with an aggressive, red-faced intensity, turning low-stakes annoyances into personal grievances.

He was still transitioning from sitcom supporting roles to a touring headliner when this aired on Comedy Central in late 2015. Coming off ABC’s short-lived ensemble comedy Mixology and right around the time he shot the pilot for Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here, he taped this twenty-minute showcase at the Royale in Boston. The set aired the same weekend he released his debut stand-up album, Say No More.

The material sticks close to standard club territory: traffic laws, ruined public restrooms, and childhood coddling. He avoids sounding generic by escalating fast, replacing casual detachment with an agitated rhythm that keeps the crowd on defense.
