Heather McMahan’s second stand-up hour, “Breadwinner,” centers on the financial shift in her marriage now that she is making significantly more money than her husband, Jeff. McMahan approaches the reality of being her family’s primary source of income not with high-minded messaging, but with high-maintenance self-deprecation. She walks the stage outlining the exact terms of her financial dominance, from the ridiculousness of being a “golf widow” to the absurdity of planning a wedding with an out-of-control budget.

Filmed over two sold-out nights at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta, her hometown, the special marked the culmination of her “The Comeback Tour”. Released in October 2024 on Hulu, the hour served as one of the flagship titles for the streamer’s stand-up comedy push. It arrived just a year after her debut special, “Son I Never Had,” found a massive audience on Netflix, solidifying her rise from a popular podcaster to a major theatrical touring act. Directed by Jen Zaborowski, the show was self-produced by McMahan’s own Absolutely Not Productions.
