Live: All Growed Up

Chris Ramsey

Universal Pictures · 2015 · 70 min

A loud, energetic surrender to domestic adulthood in Newcastle.

Chris Ramsey spends seventy-odd minutes thrashing against the onset of domestic responsibility, treating adulthood as an administrative error he was somehow tricked into signing. Filmed in October 2015 at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre & Opera House, the taping was a homecoming forced by circumstance: London’s Bloomsbury Theatre had been booked for his debut stand-up special until emergency asbestos repairs shut the building down. Playing to a home crowd suited him better anyway, giving him free rein to run at full speed without dialing back his Geordie delivery for southern ears. At the time, Ramsey was already an established television presence from BBC Two’s sitcom Hebburn and regular stints on Celebrity Juice, but here the focus stays on relatable domestic friction: squabbling over DIY, dreading parenthood, and realizing nobody in the house actually knows what they are doing.
