Rate this special
John Beuhler brings an impish, slightly cynical perspective to the stage, cutting through typical early-2000s relationship territory with a relaxed, dry delivery. Rather than relying on high-energy physical routines, he focuses on smart, slightly dirty observations about dating and modern social standards. He lets his sharpest jabs hit without any theatrical build-up.
This half-hour set aired on CTV and The Comedy Network on May 22, 2004, as part of the seventh season of the Canadian stand-up showcase Comedy Now!. It was recorded at the Masonic Temple in Toronto. At the time, Beuhler was a rising star in the Canadian scene, having already won the Just for Laughs Homegrown Comic Competition and placed in the finals of the Seattle International Comedy Competition. His writing reputation was growing quickly, eventually leading Brent Butt to hire him to help write the 2005 Juno Awards.
