Stop Me When I'm Lying!
Comedy Dynamics · 2017 · 58 min
Veteran comic Dominique Witten on aging, modern weed, and marriage.
Dominique Witten treats middle age like a surprise physical assault. She builds the hour around the stubborn physical realities of getting older: cheap liquor stops being forgiving, modern dispensary weed induces panic, and high heels wage open war on the pinky toe.
Directed by John Asher and released by Comedy Dynamics in 2017, the 58-minute set arrived during a burst of national visibility for the comic. After more than two decades working comedy clubs across the country, a run to the finals on season nine of Last Comic Standing and a recurring role as Shalinka on Adult Swim’s Black Jesus gave her a dedicated solo showcase to capture that momentum.
Witten performs with the complete ease of someone who never bothers with delicate setups or polite padding. Between observations on surviving house parties and running out of things to say in a long-term relationship, she delivers each punchline with the direct, unvarnished cadence of a comic who stopped caring about pleasing strangers years ago.
