Doug Mellard’s brand of comedy lives in a space where crude titles completely misrepresent the surrealist writer beneath them. “Fart Safari 3: Fart Hard with a Vengeance” is not about flatulence; it is a rapid-fire, topic-jumping set of observational and “what-if” humor. The bits focus on Mellard’s frantic storytelling, whether he is describing the deep, vulnerable urge to spoon with his tandem skydiving instructor—named Gary—or examining the weird social etiquette of eating banana bread at a bachelor party.

Recorded over two nights in November 2019 in Austin, Texas, the set was released by Stand Up! Records in late 2020. This third installment in the series followed a busy period for Mellard, who had recently launched the podcast “Wide World of Dougs” with regular collaborator Doug Benson. The album eventually climbed to number one on the iTunes comedy chart. Mellard handles mundane topics like Lyft rides, weddings, funerals, and neighbors confused by “the wife’s beans” with a frantic energy.
