Chris Porter uses his gruff, Kansas-bred cynicism to take apart the modern conveniences and social trends that are supposed to make life easier but mostly make it weird. He operates with a blunt, working-class frustration, targeting things like the performative nature of overachieving people and the sheer desperation of late-thirties singlehood. One of the strongest segments examines the modern Uber ride, analyzing the zero-percent chance that a passenger will ever get a life-affirming conversation out of their driver, let alone some useful guidance.\n\nThe stand-up album was recorded in September 2016 at the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Omaha, Nebraska, and released by Stand Up! Records the following year. At this point in his career, Porter was a seasoned road comic, capitalizing on the momentum of his popular 2014 hour Ugly & Angry. He uses the club intimacy of the Omaha venue to run through tight, observational routines. The set includes a detailed breakdown of aging men’s style choices in a bit on the history of fashion, alongside cynical observations about relationship compromises.
