One Night Stand

Long before she became television’s most feared spouse on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Susie Essman was a fixture of the New York club scene. Her 1992 half-hour for HBO’s One Night Stand anthology captures the comic delivering a tight 28-minute set to a studio audience.

At the time of taping, she was a seasoned performer who had picked up minor credits in Punchline and Crocodile Dundee II alongside a previous HBO showcase. Filmed eight years before she landed the role of Susie Greene, the appearance documents a working professional who had already honed her streetwise persona. She leans on the straightforward delivery and cultural framing that made her a reliable booking in Manhattan.
