Seaton Smith

Comedy Dynamics · 2015 · 50 min

Frenetic stand-up on race and domestic tension at the DC Improv.

Seaton Smith performs with a restless, startled energy, bouncing on the balls of his feet and turning minor domestic problems into high-stakes panic. He treats social friction like physical comedy, pivoting from the terror of cornering city rats to the quiet shame of sharing an apartment with a roommate who has significantly better taste than him.

Recorded in July 2015 at the DC Improv, the show was a homecoming to the club where Smith first started doing stand-up as a college student at Howard University. The taping caught him right after Fox canceled Mulaney, the short-lived multi-cam sitcom where he played Motif.

There is no lingering sitcom polish here.

Instead, Smith leans into fast-paced club material about condoms, young couples, and the awkward mechanics of talking to Republicans. Comedy Dynamics released the hour across digital platforms and audio in late 2015 under a title Smith picked simply because the phrase made him laugh.
