An unpolished, club-set hour of political fatigue and personal absurdity.

Frustrated by the overproduced nature of modern comedy specials, David Cross set out to capture the loose, crowded energy of a live music gig. He filmed his 2026 hour at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia, deliberately choosing a rock venue where the audience stood instead of sitting in comfortable theater seats. The result is a performance that leans into his signature mix of political exhaustion and absurd personal storytelling.\n\nThe material features several elaborate narrative segments, including a recount of climbing Machu Picchu with his longtime creative partner Bob Odenkirk. Cross spends a significant chunk of time detailing a bizarre but true encounter at a neighborhood massage parlor, and takes a hard swing at the sneaker-collecting subculture. When he isn’t joking about his own failures as a parent, he targets larger societal targets, from authoritarian politics to religious extremism. Released through 800 Pound Gorilla Media, the project was filmed at a time when Cross was also maintaining a residency at Union Hall in New York.
