An accidental marathon of surreal improv and loud Canadian foolishness.
Tony Law spends much of this set dressed in a skin-tight unitard, loudly interrogating his own thoughts and barking sound effects like an excitable dog attempting human speech. It is deliberately chaotic stand-up where any narrative premise is merely an excuse to make odd noises and test the room’s patience.
Filmed in Cardiff for independent distributor Go Faster Stripe, the performance ended up substantially longer than scheduled. Simon Munnery was booked to tape a set on the same bill, but heavy snow left him stranded on the M40. With half an evening of stage time suddenly vacant, Law returned to the stage to supply an unplanned 25-minute second half.
The footage circulated on limited-run DVD before reaching digital streaming services via NextUp and Comedy Dynamics in 2018. Running 78 minutes, it documents Law right before his 2012 Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination, when his brand of sweat-soaked nonsense was just solidifying into a circuit trademark.
Routines touch on pirates, television stylist Gok Wan, and the perils of misappropriating another culture’s noises. The written material remains secondary to Law acting as his own live commentator, arguing with audience members and evaluating the size of each laugh while sweating through his one-piece.
